Shift4 Payments moves to dominate the National Football League, adds Colts to its list of big-league clients

Shift4, the Lehigh County-based payment company, is starting to dominate the National Football League the way the old Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots did.

The company has added the Indianapolis Colts to its roster. Shift4 will process ticket transactions for the Colts’ Lucas Oil Stadium.

Last week, Shift4 added the Indianapolis Pacers of the National Basketball Association to its client list. The company handles payments for teams in every U.S. major league sport, including several NFL franchises; restaurants, hotels and other businesses, and non-profit organizations.

The deal with the Colts starts with this season.

The Colts have an unusual history. There was a team in the old All America Football Conference, before joining the NFL, in the era when pro football was not the powerhouse it is today.

They joined the American Football Conference of the NFL after the 1970 merger with the American Football League.

The team left Baltimore for Indianapolis in 1984.

Shares in Shift4 are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol FOUR. As of 9:21 a.m. today (Aug. 19), the share price was $81.64 in early trading. Shift4’s price has been moving up for a week.

The company is based in Upper Saucon Township with operations in North America and Europe.
