FirstEnergy Corp. has settled a rate request with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, and higher rates may go into effect Jan. 1.
FirstEnergy said the $225 million raise promotes investment in its energy grid and assistance to low-income customers.
What it means for customers, if the Jan. 1 date for the increase is granted:
Met-Ed customers will see an average monthly increase of 1.9% or $3.49, for a monthly bill of $191.19.
Penelec customers will see average increases of 4.1% to $209.29; Penn Power users will pay 4.5% more, or $188.72, and West Penn customers will pay another 6.2% or $166.07.
