Spirit Halloween Stores Pop Up With the Season, More than 1,500 Nationwide

Spirit Halloween stores are popping up in the Lehigh Valley, and nationally, the chain expects to open 1,525 outlets for the holiday.

Spencer’s, another mall retailer known for gifts and T-shirts, acquired Spirit Halloween in 1999 and made the seasonal outlet into a national chain.

Spencer’s started in New Jersey and now has more than 670 locations in the U.S. and Canada. It was a catalog retailer before opening its first store in the Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey in 1963.

The headquarters of Spencer’s Gifts is in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, a few miles inland from Ocean City.
