Weis Markets to Buy Sunnyway Markets in Chambersburg, Greencastle

Weis Markets has agreed to buy Sunnyway grocery stores in Chambersburg and Greencastle.

Sunbury, Pennsylvania-based Weis expects to complete the deal in the fourth quarter, according to a company statement. Both stores will close briefly and reopen as Weis Markets. They are in Franklin County in south central Pennsylvania.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Weis will interview employees of both stores who are interested in working for the new ownership. The stores will add Sunday hours.

Weis was founded in 1912, according to a release from the grocery chain. It now operates 196 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia.

Shares in Weis Markets are traded under the ticker symbol WMK on the New York Stock Exchange. The closing price Friday was $69.41. At that price, the company has a market value of $1.87 billion.
