Air Products Stock Tops $300 Thursday

— Jeff Ward, Lehigh Valley News Briefs

Shares of Air Products, the Lehigh County-based maker of industrial gases, peaked Thursday at a little above $300 before settling at $299.49 at the close of trading.

The peak price Thursday was $300.42, a 52-week high for Air Products (NYSE: APD).

Chief Executive Seifi Ghasemi has been talking up the company’s prospects for selling “green hydrogen,” produced without carbon emissions, as the fuel of the future for heavy industry and transport.

Still, Air Products is a big producer of helium, a gas used in the manufacturing of semiconductors, a growing business.

The $299.47 closing price was a gain of $3.77, about 1.3%, on the day. Shares in the Upper Macungie Township-based company are up 9.5% year to date.

Disclosure: I own shares in Air Products as part of a buy-and-hold strategy. I do not day-trade or deal in derivatives.
