Northampton County to Hold Public Hearing on $63.5 Million Bond Issue

— Jeff Ward, Lehigh Valley News Briefs

Northampton County will discuss a $63.5 million bond sale during its Nov. 7 meeting.

If the county dips into the debt market, the money would go toward a new parking deck and office building at the site of the existing deck. County officials say the deck is “crumbling” and has exceeded its useful life.

Northampton County Executive Lamont G. McClure told council earlier that the county is in a strong financial position and able to handle the debt load.

The offices would be for various departments, including elections and the county controller, creating more space in the existing government center on Washington Street in Easton.

Some money would go toward other uses, including improvements at the county prison.

Northampton County Council will meet Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m. in their chambers in the government center to discuss the bond sale and other issues.

Meetings are open to the public and broadcast on the county’s YouTube channel.
