Northampton County to Use Grants to Improve Seyfried Archery Complex, Minsi Lake Access

— Jeff Ward, Lehigh Valley News Briefs

Northampton County will use state and federal money to improve its green space and plan for more outdoor recreation.

A half-million dollars will go toward the Gerald E. Seyfried Bear Swamp Park & Archery Complex, and the Minsi Lake Corridor Greenway in Upper Mount Bethel Township. That portion of the grant will be used to improve elevated walkways and trails, and add a safe road crossing at Lake Minsi Drive.

Another $75,000 will go to update the county’s “Livable Landscape Plan,” guiding the next 10 years of development of open space.

County Executive Lamont G. McClure has made the preservation of open space a goal. In addition to providing recreation, he says saving space is the best way to prevent it from having warehouses built on it.

The county release said the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources provided $625,000 in total grants. That includes state and federal money. I only count $575,000, but I’ll check on whether I missed something or whether the release did.
