Maxx Fitness in Bethlehem Township Closes

Maxx Fitness used to occupy this section of the Shops at Bethlehem on Easton Avenue in Bethlehlem Township.

Maxx Fitness at 2920 Easton Ave. in Bethlehem Township has closed, and unlike some gyms that shut down, appears to have been emptied out.

No further information was on a sign at the gym, which was next to PetCo and near the Giant grocery store in the strip mall known as The Shops at Bethlehem, though most people know it as, “The shopping center with Giant on Easton Avenue.”

The retail strip used to be known as Easton Commons, and that name never caught on either.

By any name, the shopping center could be a hot property. Almost 300 apartments are being built within a mile of it, all on Easton Avenue. Add in another 61 on Linden Street in the City of Bethlehem and the total exceeds 300.

Linden Street in Bethlehem, and Easton and Freemansburg avenues in Bethlehem Township, are growing and properties on them have attracted investor interest.

The gym used to draw a lot of people, particularly early. It opened on weekdays at 4 a.m.

Maxx Fitness Clubzz has other Lehigh Valley locations, including in Saucon Valley, Allentown and Trexlertown.

In addition to Giant and PetCo, The Shops at Bethlehem is home to Vic’s Bagels, a poke restaurant, ChopStix Express, a dry cleaner, a furniture store, Yurconic Insurance Agency and a free-standing Dairy Queen, among other businesses.
