Northampton County Council to Hold Reorganization Meeting Today

Northampton County Council will hold its annual reorganization meeting at 3:30 p.m. today (Monday, Jan. 6) to choose the president and vice president of the nine-member body.

The commissioners (council members are known as commissioners) are the county’s legislative body and have the final say on spending. Budgets are set by County Executive Lamont G. McClure, with approval of council. McClure runs the county operations, including the Northampton County Prison, Gracedale nursing home, human services and other functions.

The current council president is Lori Vargo Heffner and the vice president is Ron Heckman. Both are Democrats. The Democrats hold a 6-3 majority on council. In addition to Vargo Heffner and Heckman, other members of council who are Democrats are Jeff Corpora, Ken Kraft, Kelly Keegan and Jeff Warren.

The three Republican members are John Goffredo, Thomas Giovanni and John Brown.

Council is also due to appoint a solicitor. The current legal adviser to council is Chris Spadoni.

County Council will meet at 3:30 p.m. in its chambers on the third floor of the government center in Easton.

The meeting will also be shown on the county’s YouTube channel.
