OraSure Technologies’ self-test for HIV is now available for people 14 and older, the company said today.
Shares of OraSure (NASDAQ:OSUR) rose 6 cents to $3.80 as of 9:35 a.m. today.
Bethlehem-based OraSure said today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a labeling change making the test available to more people. Previously, it was approved for people 17 and older.
Only 6% of high school students have been tested for HIV, OraSure said in its statement, citing the Centers for Disease Control. Also, 19% of new HIV diagnoses in the U.S. were among people 13 to 24.
“This approval will allow us to expand access to help those who need it,” OraSure Chief Executive Carrie Eglinton Manner said in the statement.
