Former U.S. Senator Pat Toomey had the lead letter to the editor in Saturday’s Wall Street Journal (see link below).
The Lehigh County Republican talks about the 2017 Tax Act, which cut corporate tax rates and made filing tax returns more simple.
Toomey also contends in the letter that some elements of the current tax bill — tax exemptions on tips and a $1,000 payment to new parents among them — won’t encourage growth.
He doesn’t mention the federal deficit. Many Republicans in office aren’t talking about it either, as they decide how many trillions of dollars to add to it.
Toomey’s letter, if I can steer you past the paywall (it is also available on the former senator’s X account):
Pat Toomey served in the U.S. House of Representatives and later two terms in the Senate, from 2011 through 2023.
