Shift4 has agreed to buy SmartPay, which processes payments in Australia and New Zealand.
Upper Saucon Township-based Shift4 will pay NZ$296.4 million (USD $180 million) for SmartPay. That’s a 47% premium to the 90-day average for SmartPay.
Shift4 processes payments for hotels, restaurants, sports stadiums and other venues. It has expanded into crypto payments and charitable giving. It operates in North America and is adding customers in Europe.
The deal is the first announced by new Chief Executive Taylor Lauber. He took over as CEO after founder Jared Isaacman moved to Executive Chairman.
SmartPay (NZX:SPY, ASX:SMP) provides payment-processing and point-of-sale services. It serves 40,000 customers, according to a Shift4 statement.
The deal will probably be complete in the fourth quarter of this year.
