Northampton County Says Helicopter Will Spray for Black Flies on Wednesday, Around Treetop Height

A helicopter will spray something called Vectobac to kill black flies in waterways in Northampton, Lehigh and Bucks counties on Wednesday.

Northampton County’s website gives details on the operation. Vectobac is bacterial larvicide — it kills black fly larvae (the plural of larva, I looked it up) and is not toxic to fish or other aquatic creatures, according to the county.

Such spraying has been done many times before. The helicopter will be around treetop level, but “Be not afraid!”

Spraying will take place over the Lehigh and Delaware rivers, and Tohickon Creek.
