Thermo Fisher Shares Rise After Revenue Increase

Thermo Fisher Scientific, a maker of medical and laboratory equipment, reported higher second-quarter revenue today.

Shares in Massachusetts-based Thermo Fisher (NYSE:TMO) jumped after the earning report. Shares were trading at $478.16, up 12%, as of 10:38 a.m. today. The stock is still well below five-year highs.

The company has operations in the Lehigh Valley.

Second-quarter revenue was $10.85 billion, up 3% over the year-ago period and above Wall Street forecasts. Adjusted earnings per share were $5.36, down from $5.37 in 2024. Adjusted earnings exclude items the company considers to be one-time or unusual.

Under GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), Thermo Fisher’s earnings per share were $4.28, up from $4.04 in the year-ago quarter. GAAP does not allow for exclusions.

Even after today’s early gain, the shares are well short of recent highs. Thermo Fisher shares have traded as high as $627.88 in the past 52 weeks, and as low as $385.46.

Second Quarter Highlights

Second Quarter 2025

Revenue for the quarter grew 3% to $10.85 billion in 2025, versus $10.54 billion in the second quarter of 2024. Organic revenue growth was 2%.

GAAP Earnings Results

GAAP diluted EPS in the second quarter of 2025 was $4.28, versus $4.04 in the second quarter of 2024. GAAP operating income for the second quarter of 2025 was $1.83 billion, compared with $1.82 billion in the year-ago quarter. GAAP operating margin was 16.9%, compared with 17.3% in the second quarter of 2024.

Non-GAAP Earnings Results

Adjusted EPS in the second quarter of 2025 was $5.36, versus $5.37 in the second quarter of 2024. Adjusted operating income for the second quarter of 2025 was $2.38 billion, compared with $2.35 billion in the year-ago quarter. Adjusted operating margin was 21.9%, compared with 22.3% in the second quarter of 2024.
