Wall Street Journal Say Six Flags Needs to Reduce Debt, May Sell Property, Underperforming Parks

Aug. 18, 2025

— Jeff Ward, Lehigh Valley News Briefs

Six Flags Entertainment, the owner of Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, may sell properties to raise cash, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

Six Flags (NYSE:FUN) combined with Cedar Fair in 2023. Shares of the company fell earlier this month on disappointing second-quarter results. Six Flags blamed bad weather for some of its problems.

The Journal story also noted competition from Universal’s theme parks, and Disney parks and cruises.

The story did not mention Dorney, which is a big seasonal employer and contributes to South Whitehall Township’s revenue via an amusement tax.

Six Flags operates 42 parks, including Great Adventure in New Jersey. The company said earlier this that it will close Six Flags America in Maryland at the end of this season, and sell the land.

The Journal story has a paywall, but this might get you past it: https://www.wsj.com/business/hospitality/six-flags-is-having-a-seriously-scary-summer-f773f247?st=Wqg1Br&reflink=article_copyURL_share

The closing share price Friday was $25.54, just a little more than half of the $49.77 52-week high.
