Allen Distribution at 7058 Snowdrift Rd. in Upper Macungie Township will close and cut 70 jobs as of Dec. 26, according to a State of Pennsylvania notice.
The so-called WARN Notice is required by federal law for certain layoffs. WARN stands for Worker Adjustment Retraining and Notification Act.
Allen Distribution is based in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Its website says it has 1.75 millions square feet at what it refers to as its Allentown facility.
The website shows 10 other Allen Distribution locations nationally.
In some cases, WARN notices are a formality, and workers are hired by a new firm at the same location. That is typically the case with food-service businesses.
