— Jeff Ward, Lehigh Valley News Briefs

Freemansburg Borough Council will vote Dec. 2 on increasing the property tax rate 8.2%, according to a legal notice.

Here are the details, from an earlier Council agenda:

Authorization to advertise Ordinance #2025-006, An Ordinance of The Borough of Freemansburg for the 2026 budget year, increasing the real estate tax rate from 18.26 mills to 19.75 mills. The budget for 2026 is based on setting the real estate tax rate at 19.75 mills. Motion Required.

Each mill is equivalent to $1 in tax per $1,000 in assessed property value.

Borough Council will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the municipal building, 600 Monroe St.

Freemansburg, a canal town on the Lehigh River, has about 2,800 residents, according to the borough website.

In 1989, Freemansburg and the City of Bethlehem held informal discussions about a potential merger. People in both towns objected, and the talks ended quickly.
