Hellertown Borough Council will vote Dec. 15 on a total property tax rate of 23.0 mills, according to a legal notice from the borough.
The proposed rate consists of 20.5 mills for general purposes and 2.5 mills for fire equipment and fire houses, according to the notice. That is a half-mill increase for general purposes, and 1 mill for fire services.
Based on the borough website, the proposed 2026 rate is an increase of 1.5 mills or about 7%.
The 2025 rate is 21.5 mills, according to this resolution from Council’s Dec. 2, 2024 meeting:
THAT a tax be and the same is hereby levied on all real property within Hellertown Borough
subject to taxation for the fiscal year 2025 as follows:
SECTION 1. Tax rate for general purposes, the sum of 20.00 mills on each dollar of assessed
valuation.
SECTION 2. Tax rate for fire appropriations, the sum of 1.50 mills on each dollar of assessed
valuation
A mill equals $1 per $1,000 of assessed value. In Hellertown, each mill raises about $132,000, based on the statement below from the Borough website:
As of November 4, 2024 the assessed value of the Borough was $132,310,600.
Hellertown Borough Council will meet at 7 p.m. on Dec. 15 at Borough Hall, 685 Main St., to consider the tax increase.
