Wilson Borough May Set New Requirements on Short-Term Rentals Including AirBnbs

Wilson Borough Council will meet Jan. 26 to consider new requirements for short-term rentals including AirBnbs.

“This ordinance will impose certain registration and reporting requirements on certain landlords, above those regulations already in effect,” according to a legal notice from the borough.

Communities have tried to limit AirBnbs to certain areas, require licenses of landlords and to tax the short-term stays that are promoted and booked online. In some tourism areas, residents have blamed short-term rentals for pushing up housing prices, as investors buy homes to accommodate guests.

Development of more than 400 apartments has been proposed for the former Dixie Cup plant in the borough.

Wilson will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Jan. 26 at its municipal office at 2040 Hay Terrace in the borough. Anyone may attend. A copy of the proposed ordinance is available at the borough office during regular business hours, according to the legal notice.
