Someday there may be a medical office on every corner.
St. Luke’s University Health Network has acquired the former Rite Aid in Hellertown for $2.85 million, after proposing a new use for the site last year.
In November, Hellertown’s Planning Commission voted in favor of a plan “to convert the former Rite Aid building into a medical office, which would house St. Luke’s Saucon Valley Family Practice, an outpatient lab, and an urgent care center.”
Northampton County recorded the sale of the 110 Main St. property on Jan. 14.
Rite Aid sought bankuptcy protection in 2023 and again in 2025. Filing Chapter 11 twice is what we used to refer to as “Filing Chapter 22” in financial journalism. Rite Aid closed all its stores last year, facing pressure from CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, other drug providers and online services.

“All Rite Aid stores have now closed. We thank our loyal customers for their many years of support,” says the drugstore chain’s final website.
Rite Aid was founded in Scranton, later based in Philadelphia, and at one time had more than 5,000 stores. Now, like Eckerd and Phar-Mor, it’s just a memory or an old sign on the closed stores that haven’t been put to new use yet.
The seller of the 110 Main St. property was listed as Continuum Properties LLC.
