Upper Nazareth Discusses Potential Data Centers: Upper Nazareth Meetings Blog

Feb. 5, 2026

Upper Nazareth Township is one of the many municipalities that doesn’t have rules about data centers.

The Northampton County community may change that, according to Upper Nazareth Township Meetings, a blog that reports on the township.

Here’s the blog’s report on the township’s discussion of data centers. I like the brevity.

Upper Nazareth has a multi-municipal agreement with Lower Nazareth and Chapman, according to the blog, and none of the towns have data-center ordinances. Data centers are being built worldwide, boosted by investments in Artificial Intelligence.

The township will look into rules, citing concern about power and water use by the centers, which are huge warehouses full of computers.

So on one side, cities, boroughs and townships, and on the other side, the likes of Nvidia, Amazon, Microsoft, AMD, Apple, Meta, Alphabet (Google) and various billion- and trillion-dollar companies. It will be an interesting battle.

— Disclosure: I own shares in some of the big companies involved in data centers. I still don’t want to have big warehouses full of humming computers near my home.
