Yunior Peralta-Quintana, 23, of Allentown has been sentenced to 40 to 80 years in prison for a mass shooting at a Dominican parade and festival, according to Lehigh County District Attorney and Allentown Police Chief Charles Roca.

Six people were injured in the Aug. 25, 2024 in the 100 block of North Seventh Street. The shooting led to an “extremely chaotic crime scene” according to a joint statement from law enforcement, with people “scrambling for cover.”

Police officers arrived while the shooting was going on, and two officers fired, but “none of the wounded victims were shot by those officers,” the statement said.

“The addition of extra officers patrolling the festival and nearby areas and their quick response
and life-saving measures of treating victims with tourniquets most certainly saved lives that day,” according to Holihan and Roca.

Peralta-Quintana was sentenced today by Judge Anna-Kristie M. Marks. He was convicted earlier of many charges, including Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and
Firearms Not to be Carried without a License for the shootings.

If he serves the maximum time, he will have to live to be 103 to be a free man.

He was charged with other crimes that happened after shooting, related to intimidating witnesses. He was convicted of those charges also, Holihan and Roca said.

Also charged in the case is Miguel Ovalles Ubri, 29, of Allentown. As noted in the statement, “As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest has occurred or a complaint has been filed are merely accusations and the accused, Miguel Angel Ovalles Ubri, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.”

Here’s the statement from District Attorney Holihan and Chief Roca:

Around 6:45 p.m. Aug. 25, 2024, Allentown Police officers were in the area of the 100 block of N. 7th Street near where the city’s Dominican festival and parade had occurred.
The investigation revealed an extremely chaotic crime scene that occurred that included surveillance and officer body-worn cameras that showed crowds of people enjoying the festival, including children and young adults. They were sent scrambling for cover after a barrage of gunshots were fired at each other by both Peralta-Quintana and Ovalles Ubri.
Multiple Allentown Police officers responded to the scene and arrived while the two defendants were still shooting. Two of those officers fired during this incident, but none of the wounded victims were shot by those officers. No officers were injured. The addition of extra officers patrolling the festival and nearby areas and their quick response
and life-saving measures of treating victims with tourniquets most certainly saved lives that day.
This case is investigated by Allentown Police Detectives Theodore Kiskeravage and Miguel Villa and was prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Patricia Turzyn and Assistant District Attorney Kinda Alhanna.
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest has occurred or a complaint has been filed
are merely accusations and the accused, Miguel Angel Ovalles Ubri, is presumed innocent
until and unless proven guilty.
