Allentown City Council will meet Wednesday to vote on the appointment of Frank Kane, a veteran of Lehigh County government, as the city’s next managing director.
The job pays $131,977 annually, according to the resolution to appoint Kane.
Lehigh Valley Ramblings reported on the Kane appointment earlier.
The agenda for council’s meeting Wednesday includes Kane’s resume and a motion approving him as the next managing director for Mayor Matt Tuerk.
The job: “The Managing Director shall serve as the chief administrative and operating officer of the City, responsible for the coordination and management of the day-to-day operations of municipal government. Acting under the direction of the Mayor, the Managing Director shall ensure that City departments operate efficiently and that the policies of the Mayormand legislation adopted by City Council are implemented effectively.”
In short, the MD runs the city’s daily operations and reports to the mayor.
Kane was born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown, which is as he notes just a few blocks from City Hall. He is a graduate of Moravian University and has worked for Lehigh County since 2006, most recently as Director of Community and Economic Development.
Allentown City Council will meet in Council Chambers in City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25. Kane needs four votes of the seven-member council to be approved. See this link for meeting details.
Council’s Budget and Finance Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. that day; whether the special meeting to appoint Kane will be held immediately after that or right at 6:30 p.m. remains to be seen.

Appointment of Frank Kane as Managing Director
Resolved by the Council of the City of Allentown, That
WHEREAS, Article 123.09 (C) of the Administrative Code requires City Council approval of the Managing
Director; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor hereby submits Frank Kane for consideration and confirmation for the position of
Managing Director at a salary of One Hundred Thirty-One Thousand Nine Hundred Seventy-Seven
($131,977) Dollars.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that City Council hereby approves the appointment of Frank Kane
as Managing Director effective March 30, 2026.
BE IT ALSO RESOLVED that a budget transfer will be made at a future date from the vacant positions in
the mayor’s office to fund the position if need be.
