Marijuana Company PharmaCann to Close Northeast Pennsylvania Operation, Cut 60 Jobs

It’s not improving lives in Olyphant as of now.

— Jeff Ward, Lehigh Valley News Briefs

PharmaCann, a marijuana company, is closing a Lackawanna County plant and cutting 60 jobs.

The operation in Olyphant will close by May 20, according to a state website.

PharmaCann is based in Chicago and was founded in 2014. According to its website, it is privately held (stock isn’t traded in it) and operates in more than “a half dozen states.”

The slogan on the company’s website is “Improving people’s lives through cannabis.” Unfortunately there are a lot of people in Olyphant right now who would disagree.

The company website says it operates dispensaries under the Verilife and LivWell names. LivWell is a “seed to sale” business, according to the website.

Last August, the company said it was opening a dispensary in Solon, Ohio. The name PharmaCann is presumably a play on the word cannabis.

A WARN Notice from Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry noted the job cuts. Federal law requires that communities be advised of some layoffs and plant closings.
