The former movie theater on Main Street in Hellertown has been sold for $1 million.
Northampton County recorded the sale of 1152 Main St. on March 13. The building dates to 1920, according to county records. It has been used as an office.
When it was still an operating theater, it was known as “The Movies” and “The Sauconia” before that.
The buyer was listed by the county as Wert Real Estate Holdings, based in Bethlehem. The seller was DAP Properties.
Elle Kofler, who died in 2002, was the daughter of original owner John Kofler. As big “cinemaplexes” were taking over the business, she tried to keep the small-town theater going and renamed it “The Movies.”
