Executive Education Charter School Seeks to Build Stadium in Allentown

— Jeff Ward, Lehigh Valley News Briefs

Executive Education Academy Charter School’s plan for a stadium in Allentown will be reviewed next week by the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission.

The charter school, which is run privately but funded with taxpayers’ dollars, plans a 126,713-square-foot stadium (almost three acres total) for multiple sports at 555 Union Blvd.

“The proposed stadium redevelops existing parking area,” according to the agenda of a Lehigh Valley Planning Commission committee.

The LVPC’s Comprehensive Planning Committee will discuss the project at noon on Tuesday, March 25, at noon. The meeting will be held by Zoom. There is a link to the meeting in the agenda.

The full commission will also review the plan at its meeting on Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m.

The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission is an advisory body in most cases. The City of Allentown will make final decisions on the charter school’s proposed stadium.

The Allentown School District uses J. Birney Crum Stadium for multiple sports. It has about 15,000 seats.

Executive Education Academy Charter School started operating in 2014, according to its website. It has an operating budget of about $20 million and about 1,300 students, the website says.

The school’s Founders Hall has about 2,000 seats for basketball and volleyball games.

This is totally unnecessary and wasteful. There is the ASD stadium that is seldom used. This would be an utter waste of money. As an ASD taxpayer I hate that any of my money goes to charters, especially to this one, so further ripping off the Allentown taxpayers for an empire building organization is abhorrent.
