Jefferson Health sees “hard decisions” ahead, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Journal quoted Jefferson Chief Executive Joseph G. Cacchione in a recent story that said the Philadelphia-based health system may lay off employees.

In 2024, Jefferson Health took over Lehigh Valley Health Network. Jefferson operates under the Lehigh Valley Health Network brand in the region, but Jefferson is in charge.

Another publication, Becker’s Hospital Review, said Jefferson had an operating loss of $196 million in fiscal 2025.

Jefferson Health and LVHN combined on Aug. 1, 2024. Here’s the reasoning behind it, according to the Jefferson website:

“The combination creates a leading integrated academic health care delivery system, alongside a national doctoral research university and an expanded not-for-profit health plan. We are committed to improving patient access and delivering high-quality and cost-effective care in areas that are often underserved and at higher risk for chronic conditions. Managing the health of these populations is fundamental to our mission.”

Nice words, but changes are coming, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. Certainly in Philadelphia, we will see about the Lehigh Valley.

LVHN noted its one-year anniversary of becoming part of Jefferson in August.

why not start with the BIG salaries cutting them, like the CEO less than 1/2. Stop building the new hospitals you can’t fill them with Dr’s. Take BETTER CARE of your seniors. It’s about HEALTH NOT MONEY REMEMBER!

Stop building a new facility every other block. The only new building that was definitely needed was the psych facility on Macada Rd. There is not enough staff for the buildings that exist now. The staff is stretched thin and have to travel between facilities. Not a good business model.
