Northampton County Council has rejected a tax break for development of the old Dixie Cup plant in Wilson Borough, according to a statement from County Executive Lamont G. McClure Jr.
The Tax Increment Financing proposal would have helped finance the conversion of the old plant into about 400 apartments.
McClure supported the tax break. He opposes tax breaks for warehouses but has said the Dixie plan has widespread support among Wilson residents.
Wilson Borough and the Wilson Area School District agreed earlier to approve the TIF, which would have allowed Skyline Development to divert taxes on improvements at the property to defray construction expenses.
This proposal has been in the works for awhile. What tonight’s vote ultimately means is not certain. There will be a very different Council in office in January, along with Tara Zrinski as the new executive.
Here’s the statement, posted on Facebook, from County Executive McClure on Council’s vote:

to which residents does this speak of.. I don’t want tax cuts for companies to profit off of housing… and the overflow of traffic to that area would be catastrophic
