The Wilson Borough Zoning Hearing Board will meet Feb. 24 to consider variances for the Wilson Area School District’s new stadium.

According to a legal ad posted by the borough, the school district seeks to put up stadium lights with heights of 80 feet to 90 feet, exceeding the maximum permitted, at the new stadium on Washington Boulevard.

The district also seeks to move a sign closer to Butler Street, and parking variances.

All the work is related to the construction of a new stadium and gym at Washington Boulevard and South 22nd Street.

The Wilson Borough Zoning Hearing Board will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the municipal building, 2040 Hay Terrace.

Agendas are subject to change. Check the borough website closer to the meeting.

The Wilson Area School District’s Howard M. Smith Athletic Field was built in 1928, according to the district’s website. It was named for a school board member and local businessman.

The 2025 season was the last at the stadium after 97 years.

That stadium was rebuilt a few years ago. We were surprised they never put lights in it then.

It was made a little bit bigger than what it was before it was rebuilt as a new stadium.

They increased the home seating and vbisitor seating a little bit from when it was original.

Now they want to be like Easton and spend tons of money they don’t have on a new football stadium to keep up with Easton Schools on wasting tax-payer money and raising the taxes on the people who do pay school taxes since their new 1000 plus apartment building gets a 20 year tax free pass on everything.

The stadium was rebuilt years ago and made larger with extra seating, but no lights since they only played weekend day games and had an ordinance against the lighting so they wouldn’t disturb the neighbors.

Now they want to keep up with Easton school district and waste money on a mega expensive football stadium to stick it to the tax-payers bug time, since the new 1000+ apartments building in the old Dixie plant was given a 20 year tax free status.
