Easton Area School District committees will meet tonight, and the proposed 2026-27 budget of $223 million is up for discussion.

No action is planned on the budget tonight, based on the agenda. As proposed, the spending plan includes a 3.5% tax increase. That includes money for the new $298 million Easton high school.

“We have zero reserves,” school board member Michael Simonetta said at an April 28 meeting that was broadcast on YouTube. He said the district has relied too much on spending reserves and he asked the administration to look for cuts.

The budget does not have to be set until May 31.

Meeting tonight are the committees for academics, athletics, budget and finance, buildings and grounds, educational technology and student supports.

Meeting agendas are available on the district website.

The committees will meet at 6 p.m. at the Education Center, 1801 Bushkill Drive.
