Bethlehem City Council to Review Lots of Permits for Festivals on Tuesday, and Approval for New Annex at New Bethany

Tuesday’s meeting might go smoothly, but one never knows in Bethlehem.

Bethlehem City Council has a fairly light agenda for tomorrow, with permits for festivals dominating the night.

Those are granted as formalities. Among the events up on Tuesday: ArtsQuest’s TacoFest, Portuguese Heritage Day, Pride Party Palooza, Bethlehem Vintage Market, the Holy Infancy Cultural Celebration and Soccerfest.

Council will also vote on New Bethany’s plan to knock down a south Bethlehem building and put up a four-story annex.

From the agenda: “WHEREAS, it is proposed to secure a COA (Certificate of Appropriateness) to demolish the existing 3-story annex in order to construct a new 4-story annex building at 335-339 West Fourth New Street.”

New Bethany helps people who are poor, hungry and/or homeless. The organization said earlier that the building it plans to knock down has been altered and is not architecturally significant.

The new annex is about a $7.4 million project. The plan has been reviewed by the city’s Historic Conservation Commission.

Bethlehem City Council will meet at 7 p.m. in Town Hall on Tuesday, June 2. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online. Here is a link to the agenda, and below is a cut-and-paste version.

Agendas are subject to change.
