In case there was any doubt, PPL wants you to know that the cost of distributing electricity is indeed going up July 1.
So in one year, PPL has raised the price of electricity, the price of delivering electricity, and its quarterly dividend.
When PPL announced last week that a deal with the Public Utility Commission would increase the distribution rate, the Allentown-based utility noted that parties to the deal had five days to drop out.
On Friday, PPL said ” all parties to the joint settlement have reaffirmed their support and do not intend to withdraw.”
So, according to PPL residential customers will pay 3.2% more for distribution. That’s $6.48 monthly for a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours, or $77.76 annually. Cost varies upon use.
PPL asked for a rate that would boost annual revenue $356.3 million, but settled for $275 million. The distribution rate was last raised in 2016.
PPL raised its price for electricity 1.5% on June 1. That’s a separate part of the bill, but it means two price increases in two months. To get a better rate, see papowerswitch.com.
By the way, PPL increased its quarterly dividend in February, when it announced fourth-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.34 billion. The company is also in talks with companies about building data centers in PPL’s territory.
Shares of PPL (PPL:NYSE) traded at $35.56 at 11:16 a.m. today.
