Wind Gap to Consider Banning Vehicles From Borough Park, Proposed Ordinance Addresses Electric Scooters and Bikes

July 28, 2026

— Jeff Ward, Lehigh Valley News Briefs

Wind Gap Borough Council will consider a ban on all vehicles in the borough park, addressing what some people consider to be a plague of small electric vehicles.

The ban covers “vehicles of any type (whether motorized or not)” with the usual cars and trucks, along with motorcycles, dirt bikes, roller skates, in-line skates, and e-bikes and e-scooters.

The last two may be of special note. Towns across the U.S. are considering ways to limit electric bicycles, those fast, sometimes large, two-wheelers that whiz by pedestrians silently at high speed.

The ban would not apply to official borough vehicles and emergency trucks, car shows and vehicles that serve carnivals.

Violators would face fines of $600 to $1,000.

Borough Council reviewed the issue at its July 21 meeting, and Council will vote at its meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the municipal building, 545 E. West St., according to a legal notice.

Meeting agendas are subject to change. Check the borough website before Aug. 3.
