PPL Acquires Upper Macungie Property for $1.75 Million

PPL Corp. has acquired an Upper Macungie Township property for $1.75 million.

The utility’s PPL Electric Utilities division purchased 9645 Newtown Road in June, according to Lehigh County records. The land covers about 50 acres and is “rural w/ outbuildings,” the county records say.

Allentown-based PPL has other properties in the area, including its West Trexlertown substation.

On May 1, PPL Electric Utilities filed with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, describing plans to serve Tek Park in Upper Macungie.

The industrial park was once home to AT&T’s Bell Labs, according to the Tek Park website, and later Lucent and then Agere. Later it became a technology-industry park.

Like other industrial sites in the Lehigh Valley, Tek Park touts its location:

“TEK Park is ideally located near I-78, and other major roadways including the PA Turnpike, Route 22, Route 100 and less than 15 minutes to the Lehigh Valley International Airport,” according to the park’s website.

St. Louis-based TierPoint acquired Tek Park in 2025. TierPoint has “dozens of world-class, cloud-ready data centers in 20 markets, connected by a coast-to-coast fiber network,” according to its website.

The closing price of shares of PPL (NYSE:PPL) on Friday was $35.21, giving the company a market capitalization of $26.5 billion. The company serves energy customers in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Kentucky.
