PPL Corp. is offering as much as $120 annually for charging electric vehicles (EVs) when electricity demand is lower.
“Moving charging away from high-demand periods can reduce strain on the grid and help make better use of existing electric infrastructure,” according to a statement from the Allentown-based utility’s PPL Electric Utilities division.

PPL has been preparing to serve data centers, which some residents fear will place a strain on electricity and water supplies, increasing costs for residents. The energy company says it has a plan to make sure big users pay their share and homes and small businesses are protected from increases.
Shares of PPL (NYSE:PPL) last traded at $33.40, giving the company a market capitalization of $25.1 billion.

PPL Electric offers EV drivers up to $120 a year for charging when grid demand is lower
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 17, 2026) – Owners of electric vehicles (EVs) may be able to earn up to $120 a year by participating in one of two voluntary programs offered by PPL Electric Utilities that reward charging when demand on the electric grid is lower.
With the start of National Drive Electric Month (Sept. 12 – Oct. 12), these programs give eligible residential customers two ways to earn rewards based on how they prefer to charge at home. Customers can choose an option that automatically adjusts their charging schedule or one that allows them to manage their own charging times. In both cases, customers maintain control over when their vehicles are charged.
“As National Drive Electric Month helps to spark interest on electric vehicle adoption and shines a spotlight on the benefits of electric vehicles, we want to make it easier for customers to choose a charging option that works for their daily routine,” said Lisa Norden, vice president of Customer Service, PPL Electric Utilities. “These programs offer customers a practical way to earn rewards while helping reduce demand during the times when the electric grid is busiest. That is a win for participating customers and the grid that serves all of us.”
National Drive Electric Month is a nationwide campaign focused on helping people learn more about electric vehicles and the experience of owning and charging them. As drivers look for ways to manage the cost of EV ownership, utility programs like these can provide additional opportunities to earn incentives for charging during lower-demand periods.
For customers who already drive electric, when they charge can make a difference. PPL Electric Utilities’ Optimized EV Charging program and EV Off-Peak Rewards Program provide two distinct approaches to at-home charging while promoting charging outside periods of peak demand.
The Optimized EV Charging program is designed for customers who prefer a more automated charging experience. The program manages charging schedules through participating electric vehicles or Level 2 chargers, shifting charging away from designated peak-demand periods while maintaining customer flexibility through override capabilities when needed. Customers continue plugging in as they normally would and the program makes scheduling adjustments in the background. Participants may receive up to $120 annually in incentives.
The EV Off-Peak Rewards Program is intended for customers who prefer to manage their own charging schedules. Participants charge during designated off-peak periods, and customers who meet program requirements may qualify for up to $60 in annual rewards.
Both programs are voluntary, giving customers the flexibility to select the option that best matches their vehicle, equipment and charging routine. Eligibility, charging periods and program requirements vary.
