Bethlehem Police Union Plan for New Headquarters Moving Ahead After $500,000 Purchase of Former Adagio Restaurant

Bethlehem’s police union’s plan for a headquarters on Pembroke Road is moving forward.

Bethlehem Star Lodge No. 20 completed the purchase of 530 Pembroke Road in January for $500,000, according to Northampton County records.

That building was most recently the Adagio restaurant and has operated under other names, although oldtimers will recall it as The Lantern. They had a good eggplant entree, I recall from when I lived nearby.

The union’s plan went before the Bethlehem Zoning Hearing board in October.

The transaction did not include the restaurant’s liquor license.

The facility will be for active and retired officers. It will not be open to the public.

The union headquarters, now on West Broad Street, will have a bar for members only, a padded training room for defensive tactics, meeting space and a gym. The change from a restaurant to the union headquarters will reduce traffic and impact on the neighborhood, according to Star Lodge No. 20.
