St. Luke’s University Health Network has bought yet another church, this one in Upper Saucon Township.
The hospital group paid $2.2 million for the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church property at 5900 Old Bethlehem Pike.
This isn’t the end for Cornerstone. According to the church’s website, it will remain at its current location until the congregation moves to a new building.
“Cornerstone will continue worshiping in our current building for the next two years while construction is completed on our new church home at: 3717 Station Ave Center Valley, PA 18034
This transition allows us to remain rooted in our community while preparing a space designed for the next generation of ministry — expanded children’s classrooms, welcoming gathering areas, and a worship space built for the life we share together.”
St. Luke’s has bought a couple churches recently, including a former Windish church in south Bethlehem for $750,000, and in Lower Macungie Township, $5.8 million for the former Bethany United Methodist Church.
Old churches can be hard to convert to new uses, but St. Luke’s has found a way to reuse the properties.
I didn’t find any plans for the Cornerstone site on the Upper Saucon Township website. I’d bet on medical offices, that seems to be the most popular thing in the region, after apartments.
Below are some details about the 2.1-acre property.
