Northampton County Council’s Governance Committee had a discussion of ICE ordinances on its agenda for Wednesday, but there was no discussion.

Committee Chairman Jason Boulette said Council had earlier looked at two competing ordinances about how to deal with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

There has not been progress in consolidating the two ordinances, so that was the end of that discussion. Some local governments have acted to limit cooperation with the federal agency.

The Governance Committee spent most of its time discussing how Council works with County Executive Tara Zrinski on hiring.

The conversation went on and on. Few voters care about government talking about itself. They care about what government does for them and how much money government compels them to pay.

Rather than try to set up new rules, Council could try to behave in a more harmonious way, agreeing without being disagreeable.

Good luck with that.
