Northampton County Council will discuss “possible ICE ordinances” later today.
Just a discussion, no vote will be made but there may be a lot of catterwauling for and against limiting immigration enforcement, particularly after recent ICE shootings.
Other local governments have passed laws limiting U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement operations in courthouses, for example.
County Council’s Governance Committee will discuss potential ordinances later today.
Exactly when is impossible to say. First, at 5 p.m. council’s Personnel and then Finance committees will meet. The Governance Committee will meet when those two sessions are over.
The main item on the earlier agendas is review of County Executive Tara Zrinski’s appointment for the Gracedale nursing home’s “Director of Continuum Care.” Be that a good move or bad, that’s one awful title. That will be part of the Personnel Committee meeting.
The meetings will start at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers on the third floor of the county government center in Easton. They will also, if the technology is willing, be shown on Northampton County’s YouTube channel.
