The Easton Area School Board voted Tuesday against a three-year pay and benefits plan for administrative and support staff.

The plan covers directors, supervisors, school principals and others, but not the superintendent and some other top officers.

Board member Brian Snyder said the contract “covers too many disparate groups.” He also noted that the list provided by the district (see part of it below) lists starting salaries, not the actual pay.

“One (salary) is given at $81,000 but (the employee) gets $135,000,” he said.

“We gave a lot of experienced people in those positions,” board President Jodi Hess said, saying that actual pay reflects years employees have spent with the district.

Snyder also commented on what the district is supposed to be all about: teaching.

“When you’re looking at how we’re doing academically, we haven’t recovered from the pandemic yet,” he said, saying the district has been “so-so for six or seven years.”

“We get some very detailed presentations but I don’t necessarily see the improvements,” he said.

Snyder and Price were among the “no” votes, I couldn’t identify all of them via audio. The board will have to reconsider what is known as the Act 93 agreement, which would have covered July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029. It included 2% to 2.5% raises annually.

— From Brian Snyder: The ayes were: Sayago, Davis, Zando-Dennis. The nays were Hess, Keegan, Greenfield, Whitman, and myself. Simonetta was not present. —

The district raised property taxes by 3.5% in June, and is building a new high school, cost estimated at $298 million.

Here are the top starting pay numbers from the list, and remember, these are minimum salaries. To see the complete list, see this link or go to the district website and find school board meeting agendas.

I’m glad they called out the lack of transparency! Who presented the incorrect numbers? Voting on raises but providing the starting salary and not current is clear deception! I would met money Sayago and Keegan were the two yeses

If those are the starting salaries, then that’s what the district feels a person who’s qualified can do the job for. Six of the eight directors make $141,8xx or higher and they want 2-2.5% more each year? Those supervisors and directors have a pension, health plan, guaranteed employment. Given the perpetual state of lackluster academic outcomes, do they (those on the academic side) deserve the comfort of a guaranteed raise, too?

And, as a person who’s been on the board for 10 years, I don’t recall EVER hiring anyone on those higher paying positions at what the minimum is. As I said at the meeting, the document shared with the public is deceptive.

Thank you for the clarification. The list is a bit off and placing it on the Pledge of Allegiance tab initially was odd, though probably just an entry error.
