Six Flags Shares Fall Under $7; 2024 Merger Has Destroyed Billions of Dollars of Market Value

The 2024 combination of Six Flags and Cedar Fair has been a disaster.

When shares of Six Flags fell into the mid-teens, some investors might have tried to grab the stock at a discount.

That bargain turned into a falling knife. The shares (NYSE:FUN) touched a 52-week low of $6.75 today before closing at $6.77.

The owner of Dorney Park, Great Adventure and other amusement parks and resorts has been a disaster since the 2024 combination of the former Six Flags with Cedar Fair, then owner of Dorney. The combination led to $5 billion in debt, and despite selling some parks, closing one and changing management, this ride only goes down.

The market capitalization (current share price times number of shares outstanding) has plummeted, finishing today at $693 million, down from about $5 billion after the 2024 deal was complete.

A recent death at a park in Georgia and the closing of a California roller coaster after reports of injuries made things worse, and a big investor has asked the company to put itself up for sale. Not even “brand ambassador” Travis Kelce of the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs can help.

At this point, maybe not even Taylor Swift, Kelce’s wife, can help. Blaming bad weather isn’t going to work either.

Six Flags has had little to say about the falling stock, but that will change on Nov. 5 when the company announces third-quarter earnings. The conference call should be interesting.
